SLIPKNOT: Nothing But A Scapegoat
February 19, 2002SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor recently told Britain's Rock Sound magazine that the Iowa-based nine-piece had received disturbing e-mails claiming the band were responsible for the September 11th tragedy in New York.
"There was this guy who was sending us emails that were like, 'I figured it out, SLIPKNOT was responsible and had a part in the events of September 11," explained Corey. "That was weird, I didnt know how to feel about it. It's been resolved and the guy's back on his f.cking medication, but it was a really weird time for everyone!"
The frontman also told Rock Sound how the band's T-shirts were banned from a school in Iowa, only for the ban to be lifted several days later. "There was a principal at a school here in town and someone went to the principal and said they should ban SLIPKNOT shirts in school because we were satanic and racists, Taylor stated. He banned them for a couple of days but what he did was and I've never heard of a principal doing this he went out and bought the CD, listened to it and was like, 'I may not understand a lot of what [the singer is] saying and [the band] may use a lot of foul language but I can find nothing either satanic or racist in these lyrics.' He said they were actually pretty thought-provoking and that made me feel pretty f.cking good, man! He reversed the ban and the shirts are allowed back in the school. That shows you the power of trying to understand something, going out and trying to get as much knowledge as possible, it shows you the power of being intelligent. Ignorance is one of our worst f.cking enemies."
